Global Concert of Resistance
June 21, 22, and 23, 2021
Introduction
Vejaciones por Colombia (Vexations for Colombia) is a protest concert organized in response to the dramatic and abusive social situation our country is going through, amid a pandemic. 15 guitarists, located in Argentina, Colombia, South Korea, Denmark, Spain, France, and Switzerland, will perform Erik Satie’s piece Vexations uninterrupted for 30 hours, from Monday, June 21, 4:00 pm (Colombia time), until Wednesday, June 22, 12:00 pm (Colombia time).
It’s worth recalling that this piece — also amid socially dramatic circumstances — was performed over 7 days in the city of Buenos Aires in September 2001. In this way, Erik Satie’s work stands as a sonic gesture charged with the force of protest for Latin America, and it is in this concert that we feel the echo of that protest from 20 years ago resonating once again. On this occasion, the piece, originally for piano, will be performed in a version for guitar (electric and acoustic).
