Wild Territory: 3rd negra40 and Club del Dibujo Days

Wild Territory: 3rd negra40 and Club del Dibujo Days

The 3rd negra40 and Club del Dibujo Days focus on two specific forms of knowledge — creation and thought — from the critical perspective awakened by landscape and territory. We are chiefly interested in the relationships, coagulations, emergences, and projections that the crossing between making and place makes possible. In this sense, we pay particular attention to how drawing, music, photography and architecture function, unfold and speak within a given landscape.

What exists where I exist? What winds, what kind of ground, at what altitude, at what temperature? What do I see? What do I hear? Is the horizon part of my field of vision — is silence? How attentive are we to our surroundings?

We propose to take our time and open ourselves to the exposure these questions stir up.

Program

Tuesday, December 4 UTN. Universidad Tecnológica Nacional. Aula Magna

4:45 pm. Opening presentation Mario Gemin (Club del Dibujo) and Martín Virgili (negra40-UTN)

5:00 pm. Territory and Architecture: Altered Landscapes. Guillermo De Diego. Starting from an expanded notion of landscape — one that involves any environment that can be grasped by a set of senses — architect Guillermo De Diego will focus on describing the uses and alterations (political, aesthetic and economic) that bear on it in the city of Mar del Plata.

6:00 pm. Drawing and Music: The Ciclo del Exilio Project. Guillermo Bocanegra. The talk will focus on describing the research and creative process behind the solo-guitar composition Ciclo del Exilio, by the Colombian Guillermo Rendón García. Rendón, besides being a composer, is an ethnographer. In a crucial essay dealing with Andean-Amazonian cultures — “Antropología del Arte, constantes andinoamazónicas” (1987) — the composer explores a particular kind of engraving — drawing — inscribed on stone — petroglyph — designed more than 3,000 years ago by the Chibcha cultures of northwestern Colombia.

7:00 pm. Teatrino: A Look at the Work of Molina Campos through Landscape. Gustavo Frittegotto. We propose to offer a brief commentary on the work of Molina Campos, recovering the landscape in which his characters are set. We find that the territorial arrangement in his work follows an architectural order more than a painterly one.

8:00 pm. The Anatomy of Seasickness, a Few Remarks. Leopoldo Juanes. Music is also a landscape. Whatever style or aesthetic aim it points toward, that music will, in one way or another, unfold a territory, a space to inhabit. There are times, however, when music wants to be decisively explicit and tries to wrap a portion of land within itself. That is where we see a folklore being born.
