Serkan Yilmaz

A composer, 10-string guitarist, arranger, and a highly expressive, subtle performer of Turkish origin now based in Argentina.

He had his first contact with a guitar at age 20, and just two years later was invited to take part in several international music festivals in the cities of Istanbul, Ankara, Ordu, and Adana, Turkey.

In Latin America he has performed in Curitiba, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as well as several cities in Argentina. He has been a guest at numerous editions of the “Festival de Guitarras del Mundo” and of the “Buenos Aires Jazz Festival” (2013) in Argentina.

For his compositions Serkan draws on elements of jazz, classical, ethnic, contemporary, Latin American, and Turkish music, creating a highly personal and distinctive style, achieving a broad sound of elaborate melodic lines and percussive resources. At times he moves away from the everyday use of the guitar, giving it unconventional treatment. His dedication to the art of improvisation is also notable.

Serkan has released three albums in Argentina: “Paisajes de Infancia” (2008), “Descalzo” (2010), and “Mago” (Bosphorus Duo, 2013), featuring his own compositions. He has shared the stage with major contemporary musicians in countless concerts.

He currently lives in Buenos Aires, performing his music in concerts and working as a teacher.
