About the concert

ABC of Sound (1965), by Bob Cobbing, is an emblematic piece of twentieth-century sound poetry. Cobbing’s idea is to present a sonic alphabet made up of a thicket of languages, in order to trace certain underground paths that connect the different territories of language.

Découpe (2006), by Vincent Barras and Jacques Demierre, is a work of sound poetry that takes as its starting material various words naming parts of the human body. Those body-words drift further and further from language until only a sonority remains of them, barely a residue of speech. The piece works, precisely, with those residues.

Vocal-a (2013), by Jorge Ihlenfeld and Martín Virgili, is a musical composition written for two actors. It works on the conditions under which the human voice is produced, considering its relationship to the -personal- identity attributed to it. In this sense, the composition questions “the sound of our voice” along a curve running from the material and contingent conditions that produce it to the symbolic and social representations attached to its use.

Visions (2016) grew out of encounters with a series of astrologers and psychics, who were consulted on what a piece built from what they “saw” in the composer would be like. The concrete materials, actions and text were gathered from those encounters.

A Love Story (2016). What does a kiss say? What does it open, what does it close? It is a sound, an alliance, a vehicle, true — but it is also a device capable of suddenly changing social relations. A decisive gesture for understanding our civilization, the kiss binds together various founding moments of our life in society. Inspired by a visual poem by Mirella Bentivoglio, A Love Story is part of the Diagonal Vigo project, music built around the work of the experimentalist Edgardo A. Vigo.

Like Vision and A Love Story, Too Much (2019) was written by Martín Virgili for the duo Música Naranja. The poem is an exercise centered on an imaginary gradient running from tenderness to violence. “What a harsh word you’ve said to me,” says the hurt and frightened young man. The music interrogates the forces behind that “harshness.”

About the duo

Música Naranja is a duo formed by Pamela Guruciaga and Martín Virgili, primarily interested in exploring new forms of artistic creation arising from the interaction of body, sound, space and stage.

Their repertoire spans vocal works of sound and experimental poetry, contemporary and avant-garde music, theater and musical theater, articulated together with their own pieces, which follow in the performative and exploratory tradition of body, music and word.
