Summary

Undefinable by its very essence, musical experimentalism would seem to be less a specific style than a set of attitudes, less a matter of aesthetics than of ethics, less a theory than a lived experience. This seminar will open a series of windows onto the fascinating universe of possibilities that experimentation has opened up for music, and its potential for dialogue with other fields. Held over four sessions, each lasting three hours, the seminar will combine a masterclass format with listening sessions, screenings, discussions and hands-on experiences, through which participants can develop varied approaches to the subject at hand. While the center of attention will be this exuberant bouquet of musical and sonic otherness, the seminar has been conceived as a meeting space for people from any field of expertise, even those unrelated to artistic practice. Musicians and non-musicians, artists and non-artists, will be welcomed on equal footing, in the hope that our wanderings might always serve to bring our societies together in broader, more intimate, and more positive ways.
