Listening experiences that left a mark
Negra40 / Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAR)
Presentation
We can think of listening as a defenseless surface, waiting to be marked, pressed, notched. Not everything that touches our ears and our heart manages to bite into the paper of our listening; but when it does, the scratch can turn out to be permanent, tying us forever to the indelible bias of a transformative, memorable sound. We are what we are, but we are also what we listen to.
Decálogo sonoro (“Sound Decalogue”) sets out to gather the genealogical and biographical trail of these listening impressions. Negra40 invited ten artists who have collaborated on one of its projects to leave testimony of musical works or sound experiences that, for being formative or decisive, were constitutive of their lives.
